The early years to now "Women’s Skate Contests: A 60-Year Story"

I know this is old news but I just came across this podcast "Women’s Skate Contests: A 60-Year Story | Good Luck With That: A Podcast About Skateboarding" and video yesterday August 29th. Today is the 30th and I have two photo shoots and an interview. I never got this much media attention as I am gettnig now for being an older skater. I hope to show that age is a number and that you can skate or do anything if you set your mind to it and train. I physically would not beable to do this if I didn't get good sleep, eat healthy and work out. And when I say work out I mean lift heavy weights.

Video podcast by Alex White who spearheaded the Santa Cruz Skateboard video that is the number 5 most viewed video. For the record it was one person that worked at NHS that said they would never consider me pro because I was female. It wasn't the company and Richard Novak has sponsored me since I was 16 and I still get gear 50 years later.

Listen to the podcast to hear about the struggles and reality of women skateboarding compared to where it is today. In 2001 I skated my first slalom race paid over 100.00 for the entry fee and won the women's on the first day and they announced the men's division and never announced the women's. I got a VHS video as a price from the pile I got to pick from after the men grabbed what they wanted first. Things have changed and we do get equal prize money. This podcasts explains the herstory. Thank you for including me.

For the record and because I wasn't the only woman pushing through in the early years of skate competiton. Cindy Whitehead was a driving force and friend. She runs a non profit "Girl Is NOT A 4 Letter Word" that helps young talented up and comers link. Her personal IG link.

Peggy Oki, Vicky Vickers, Leilani Kiyabu-Glasheen, Desiree Von Essen Harrington, Laura Thornhill, Patti Hoffman, Terry Brown, Deana Calkins, Kim Cespedes, Robin Logan, Terry Lawrence, Edie Robertson, Ellen Berryman, Gale Webb, Jana Pane, Ellen Oneal, these are the women I skated with in the 70's. The 80's were amazing as well and then it kept on rising though the parks closed and ramps started.
