The CrossFit Games in Madison is a wrap

The hotel has no wifi so I had time to write this blog of the Monday the day after the CrossFit Games in Madison. I write this blog when I have time and have done something I want to keep in the archives.

The CrossFit Games is a wrap.

A big shout out to the volunteers and all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. I powered many days of work prior to leaving and I got sick. I’m sure it had nothing to do with two weeks prior racing at the West Coast Championships in Salem Oregon and then running the Wharf to Wharf 6K the following week and not taking a breather. I was hacking and coughing most of the week if I had been home I’d have been in bed. (lol) I felt bad for my colleagues around me and kept going into the hall to clear my lungs. I had not been sick in over two years and of all things I get sick the week of the Games.

I worked on the score cards and was going back and forth most of the first 3 days between the media room where I was tagging and picking out photos for social media and CF Journal articles. The big bonus was that the Score Cards room called the Bat Cave was next door last year it was a trek to get to them going back and forth took a walk and a few flights of stairs and an elevator ride which was a good mini workout and got my blood moving.

This year Taylor (my son) got to go and he volunteered and was running memory cards for the photographers. He went from not sure about if he’d made the right choice finding out we had 12+ days to wanting to go again next year. He is stoked about CrossFit again after taking a break from doing it and realizing how cool my job is. I asked him which division he enjoyed more the teens, masters or the individuals and to my surprise the group that made the most impact was the 50+ and up category. I think a bubble went off in his head about using CrossFit to be strong and how useful it is in everyday lift. These people look like your normal elder person and then they take their shirt off and they have a six pack and are a fit as can be.

I got to see my cousin Carli and her friends for a few minutes they came all the way from Niceville Florida. Carli inspired me to try CrossFit she taught classes in South Korea (husband was a CrossFitter and Jet Pilot instructor for the US) and is a badass too. I had enough time to hand her a few tanks and some stickers and buttons. I didn’t expect her too send me some awesome selfies of her and her friends with Nicole from CF Training, Sam Dancer, and Tommy.

I didn’t get to see any of the events in person, last year we were able to look out the window from our box seats and watch between breaks every hour of doing 20 air squats or push ups. This year we were in a room with a bank of large tv monitors which was great but I think next year I’d like to at least watch a little bit in person for a few minutes. Maybe help run cards one round so I can work and watch and get a little peak of all the live action.

The women's finals were super exciting since Tia and Kara were so close in points and Tia placed second in the final event. I thought she had gotten moved down to second and it was so special to see her win. We were all in tears in the photo area at least the folks around me.

Congrats to all of the competitors! Here is a link to the Games site for more info.

First woman inducted in a High School Sports Hall of Fame for Skateboarding?

Well not sure about it but I am honored to be inducted into Aptos High Schools Hall of Fame. I got a call last week from Mark Dorfman the Athletic Director. I was informed that I had been on the short list for a few years and that I finally got into the SHOF for the school. My son Ryan Foy goes there now and plays football. I've walked by the SHOF signs and read names like Tyler Fox (Maverick Surfer founder of Santa Cruz Waves) Peter Mel (Big Wave Surfer dad founded and runs Freeline Design) and Cody Townsend (Extreme Skier known for doing the epic chute video and who's dad was my English Teacher and who I got Giro helmets for before he was a big name but that's another story).

The Dinner isn't until April 2017 and it will be at the Seascape Golf Course. In the 70's I skateboarded for Santa Cruz Skateboards, Independent Trucks, Park Riders Wheels, Cellblocks Riser Pad, OJ Wheels. I have never bought skate shoes I was given Van's and other skate brands as my friends worked at different skate companies. I am fortunate. I always tell new skaters never burn a bridge. Be respectful. If someone offers you a product use it and if it's not something you ride don't take it just to take it.

I raced last weekend at the US Nationals in Oceanside California. Placed 2nd in the women's and beat some of the men in the Hybrid and Tight slalom skateboard race. The Giant slalom was from the top of the hill super rough pavement and fast. I am stoked to be riding and getting support from Sk8kings Skateboards, Turbo Wheels, Independent Trucks, Khiro Skateboard Products, Bronson Bearings, NHS Fun Factory, Rip Tide Foot stops and shoes from Krysta DC rep... Thank you to Lynn Kramer fastest woman on a skateboard who has won the World Title for 12 years in a row. Di Dotson for supporting the women and getting sponsorship monies to match the men's purse. I've been racing for over 40 years. It is still something that needs fixing in many of the male dominated action sports. It will happen but all the women need to work together not against each other. I'm glad the last skate park contests let girls submit a video to get it because it should not be controlled by women that gang together and only invite the girls they know. There are lots of unknown skaters out there that need to have a chance.

Pleasure Point Fair back to my roots

I was born and raised at this small house on Hawes Drive on Pleasure Point and then we moved to Aptos and then I moved back to Pleasure Point and then back to Aptos. Today it was great to spend the day at the fair seeing old friends and sharing space with Brian and Sabine of Eastside Industries. I lived off South Palisades for 15 years between 19-36 a huge part of my skate life and early graphic design career started on the Eastside. I use to love to do window displays in the Santa Cruz Surf Shop. I airbrushed surfboards at night while commuting to San Jose State studying illustration and design. My first t-shirt designs were for the Santa Cruz Surf Shop and NHS or Santa Cruz Skateboards. So now it is full circle to be selling my Crossfit inspired Badgirl Mermaid and my Badass Skatemom Skate shirts. I don't take anything for granted. You have to pay your dues and work hard to make things happen. I am forever grateful. I love what I do and feel lucky for all the support. Badass Skatemom was coined because all my friends and even people I didn't know would say your a Badass Skatemom after seeing me skateboard slalom race or if they heard that I skated and was a mom. Not something I would call myself. lol

Dolphin airbrush foam core and paper.

Surfboard Airbrush.

This design was a sticker and a tshirt. Type designed by Jim Phillips.

Badass Skatemom launched two months ago. I guess I've been talking about it for years because a few people came up to me today and said you finally did it after talking about it for so long. Yes, a mini line for myself to play with designs I like that for you, me, moms, women, girls that kickass. Some designs are inspired from working out with friends that I do Crossfit with. I"ve had many ideas brewing and there are more things coming down the pike. Thank you to people who have never met me and friends that support me always I thank you.

Crowd Fav of course Jimbo Phillips graphic t shirts. Nice to see Jenny and a few of Colby's pieces.

Skate contest a large crowd as always. TC always giving to the skate community.
