Crossfit and my Graphic Design Passion Collided

Running at 6:00 am is not always fun, it pretty much sucks. I am the slowest and oldest at the Crossfit I go to in Aptos. One morning I was running and thinking about the early dump trucks that come around the corner and thought slow down or Warning runners or Crossfitters with medicine balls or Kettle Balls. That's the mom in me and the designer. Bubble, Hey what about CF inspired signage, thus the Handstand and the woman pushing the Sled. I have so many ideas all the time but I rarely actually pull the trigger and make something. Well I made these yellow Crossing graphics at 4" vinyl stickers that I am getting on Monday and will post on my Badassskatemom.com site. Something I started 6 weeks ago.

Pricing out the outside 18" x 18" yellow Xing signs. The more orders I get the lower the price. Same goes for the Heroes Restroom signage. Now that was process. I wanted to do Heroes and Girls for the WODS but got some flack. How do you show both Men and Women as Heroes. Well this was the result after a few Instagram and Facebook posts. I had other ideas like Murph and Fran... these will be available and I will post.

For retail in Santa Cruz where Crossfit originated they will be at Crossfit Aptos.

New Croakies Stunt Puppy collaboration Jimbo Phillips Eyeball

Today this collar and leash set came from Croakies. A graphic I art directed and with the talented Jimbo Phillips. The eyeball print along with several others is in the line made into belts and lanyards. This print is not in the line but I'm hoping to get enough interest that it will be. I am the Northern California rep for Santa Cruz area surf shops I do it because I'm passionate about the brand and it's roots. I would love to get these into the Santa Cruz Boardroom or Stacy's store Sawyer Land and Sea Supply. Cooper had a hurt leg today he was limping on three and was a bit down. Croakies are at the Sockshop and Shoe Company Downtown Santa Cruz, SUP Surf Shack at the Harbor, Oneill's Surf Shops...Outdoor World. Wish West Marine would pick them up since they are Made in the USA! :)

Some of the other Croakie designs on my website I helped get into the line with some talented local artist and some of my own designs. Croakies is made in the USA and the owner is a great friend, photographer and skateboarder from the past. He use to be the team manager for Santa Cruz Skateboards.

First time sponsoring skateboarders skating for a good cause

Thank you to the Socksmith for giving me a killer deal on socks for two skateboard causes. I picked up some Socksmith socks and some Down HWY 1 socks yesterday afternoon. One group is already on the road. I spoke to them two days ago after seeing an Santa Cruz Sentinel article about their trek. I contacted NHS and they are going to give them Road Rider Wheels the wheels they are actually using. They come to town late Monday and I plan on giving them socks and wheels. I hope some bearings too. The other group is lead by a friend of mind Jack Smith. He is skating across america for the forth time.

WHAT: To raise money for veterans' services for veterans of of Iraq and Afghanistan by skateboarding and bicycling from the Oregon to Mexico borders. WHEN: 5 p.m. June 17 WHERE: Near Highway 1 and Ocean Street, Santa Cruz. INFORMATION: Call Britany Mendelsohn at 818-519-1638, send email to SkateTrek4Vets@gmail.com or go to www.facebook.com/VetSkateTrek, Twitter.com/VetSkateTrek or www.causes.com/actions/1745862-the-mission-isnt-over-veteran-skate-trek

In October of 2012 Jack Smith's father, and Dylan's grandfather, Jack Smith, passed away due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease. We are making this push in his honor and to raise awareness and $100,000 to help fund care, support and research in the fight against Alzheimer's.

On July 4th, 2013, our five person team,  ranging in age from 20 to 56 will come together to push our skateboards 3,000 miles from Newport, Oregon to New York City, New York in a little over three weeks. Email the team atinfo@apushtoremember.com

Marketing 101 Outdoor Retailer

Worked remotely on my marketing presentation as outdoors as you could get at Rooster Comb Ranch no wifi but got er done.

Missed the Amgen Stage 3 finish with the Haut Surfboard graphic at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk with Dave Zabriskie yesterday but it was all worth it working on marketing branding strategy in Bozeman Montana with Marvin Levine. He's the guy that was the Outside Design Consultant that worked on the Bass Pro Shops retail interior retail design look and feel. He's working with Carhartt and now Croakies. Croakies has been around since 1978 founded by none other than John Krisik, JK or Escargot. He was a downhill skateboarder, photographer and team manager for Santa Cruz Skateboards back in the day. He owns and runs his company with head quarters located in Jackson Hole with manufacturing in Bozeman, Montana. It is owner operated and a very family like company with a great crew.

Side note:
Many of the Built to Grind photos are by John Krisik though they spelled his name wrong. After all it is skateboarding and what do skaters do best but f with each other.
