Santa Cruz Skatepark Wave in the Wall Street Journal

It's not often in one week I get a call from the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and the Santa Cruz Sentinel all for skateboard related info. The WSJ wanted to get permission for using one of the images I took of the Santa Cruz Skatepark Wave public art project I did with Jimbo Phillips and Diamond D Concrete. Super stoked see it live today in a skate article with an interactive section along BK's photography.

Ripper Book

Art before framing old magazines and skate imagery.

Brought back some great memories from back in the day.

Stoked to be part of the Ripper art show at ASR and now looking forward to seeing the book. Thank you Desiree Astorga for including me in the show. Here's a video link.

On January 23rd, 2009, Powell-Peralta hosted the Rip the Ripper Art Show. Fifty eight artists had pieces on display. The reason for the show was to celebrate The Ripper graphic. So many skaters and artists have been influenced by VCJs image over the years, we wanted to do something that would pay respect to VCJ and get skaters stoked. We invited a group of artists and asked them to interpret The Ripper in their own style. Curator: Desiree Astorga

The book is the culmination of passion, hard work and effort from this exhibit. It features the artwork that was created for The Rip the Ripper Art Show featured at ASR.

The Rip the Ripper art show that went down last January has now spawned a book and commemorative limited edition deck. Featuring fifty eight artists’ reinterpretation of Powell Peralta’s famous Ripper, the book will be available in either a 8 X 8 soft cover for $40.00, or a 10 X 10 hard cover for $75.00.

Capitola and artist James Jean

So great to see illustrator James Jean get a huge mention from Lance today on twitter for his Livestrong chalk art drawing. Very cool. I had the chance to work with James a few years ago. Of course the first year Lance was not riding. Got some amazing images for the Giro bike catalog. The bottom image is from a shoot on the beach in Capitola on the wall the other is taken in between the buildings at Venetain Hotel. Photos by BK.

Thank you to Mark Whiteley of Slap for putting a little shout out to the Capitola Classic survey.
