"The Curiosity Effect" Judi's Roku shoot in Santa Cruz

I have to say 2024 has been quite a year. The World Skate Games in Italy, several news interviews, a continuing Japanese American History skate documentary project and this Roku The Curiosity Effect. I had the most amazing experience shooting this piece with Roku. I had no idea how large this project was until the night before when I got emailed the call sheet that had 17 people on it. This was the biggest crew so far.
Day 1 we met at NHS to shoot with Richard Novak and show the museum and the rich history Santa Cruz Skateboards has. It was one of my first jobs when I was 16. I stuffed bearings in Road Rider 2's. Shipped some of the first Indy trucks and silkscreen skateboards. We went to the Old Wrigley Building, they already had a crew of people setting up there. William Ow let us rent his office to set up a back drop and shoot. They had lunch catered in I had my first hair and make-up treat. Nothing intimidating at all about shooting in front of a bunch of people.
Day two was at my house in Aptos. Thank you neighbors for putting up with the trucks and cars for the day. We shot in my SheShed in my house, on down our street. Interview with my husband Greg and Maggie via FaceTime. It was pretty epic. We had amazing local food again and shot all day.
Day 3 they rented the whole Mike Fox Santa Cruz Skatepark for the day and a hotel room across the street where we did some sound bites and had a place to use the bathroom. Turns out this town I was born and raised in has no public bathrooms since we have a huge homeless population. And now we are building like mad with no parking, no water plans. They claim they are low income but they are not. 3,000 a month for 600 square feet is not low income.
Thank you Vacationland crew. Production Company Vacationland The director Carlos Carneiro Video Link Want to check out the NHS museum. Contact: NHS Skate Museum nhsskatemuseum@gmail.com
