Downhill Skateboard Gear on loan to the California Surf Muesum

Sent off my Downhill Skateboard Gear for a year along with Bob Denike president of NHS (Santa Cruz Skateboards, Independent Trucks, Road Rider...Creature), custom helmets first fairing style concepts and boards, Mike Goldman and John Hutson's Leathers and boards to Larry Balma the founder of Tracker Trucks and Dale Smith known for his huge collection of vintage skate stuff. I have saved my skate stuff for the memories and now for the kids. Some how lost all of my medals and most of my trophies from back in the day but have the memories, race notes, times, numbers and lots of stickers. Got a e-mail about another possible skate show at a famous museum but will have to keep that one under wraps. Big thanks to TC at the Santa Cruz Boardroom for letting us take out the downhill goods which have been on display at his amazing Skateboard Museum within the store on 41st in Santa Cruz.

I love skateboarding always have always will. I've come across some old art when digging up the skate stuff. Paintings and drawings I don't even remember doing. I"m giving these to Scott Foss skater from the Bones Brigade who lives in Santa Cruz. We skated back in the 70's hope to skate with him again at Lake Cunningham.

Mama Skate-O-Rama at Lake Cunnigham

Got a mention in the local Santa Cruz Sentinel. Nice. Great day at Lake Cunningham skate moms and shredders. Thank you for the great support. Love the nice words from Cindy Whitehead and Rick Blackhart. Not many can say they got some perks from RB. That was a nice surprise. Cindy and I have been skating for years and it is fun to be working with her on a side project. The Article made the Santa Cruz Sentinel too cool.

Nice to see the San Jose Mercury news article

Amgen Surfboard Jimbo Phillips Collaboration

Here is the Amgen Tour of California Surfboard that is going to be given to the winner of Stage 2 that ends in Aptos on Monday, May 14 th. Started several months ago with a lunch meeting with Maura. Called my two go to guys Doug Haut and Jimbo Phillips and asked if we could work together on this project. They both said yes and we started. Big thanks to Jerry at Headline Graphics for a quick turn around with the fabric logos. Usually you have to use rice paper which is coarse and silkscreened. These days with new technology you can print on a special fabric and get rich colors and finer detail. Steve Hosmer sent me his Amgen logo graphic. Brought them to the Haut shop so when he was done shaping he could get them to the crew at the Santa Cruz Board Builders Guild. I gave them a print out of decal placement. When the board was done I picked it up and dropped it off at Jimbo's. By then between stages I seems the window of time kept shrinking. Jimbo had a week and then I called yesterday and he said it was done. Of course on the way my car acted up. It died at an intersection and I was able to coast over to restart and get to Jimbo's. I put the board in my car and called Nate Smith Optimum Auto Care. They said bring it in. I tell them about the car and how it sounds like Chewbacca when you turn the engine off. Well I still needed to get the board across town. Got a ride to borrow my mom's car and got home.

I couldn't do what I can get done without all the great friends and family support.

Thanks Adele and Maura

Rooster Comb Ranch Santa Cruz Fly Fishing weekend 2012

Year 3 or 4 for me. Greg and Kids have gone a few times without me. Scott Wilkinson is the host and owner. Rancher, hunter, cowboy and super host escorts you in Friday am and out Sunday evening. This weekend was a bit different since it was the rare time they open the gate to the public and allow folks to drive in to the horse camp. Rooster Comb Ranch is further down the road by at least another 45 minutes. It is beautiful and quiet. The old ranch house is off the grid run by solar panels. Fishing was good the sun was hot and each day was a new adventure. Taylor shot and skinned his first rabbit. He had a great teacher who was a competitive sharpshooter and hunter showed him how it is done right out in the outback. We all learned that the work starts from the point you shoot the animal to when it is turned to food. Getting the internals out quickly so the meat doesn't spoil. Air dry to put that coat of protection to keep the flies off... The kids will have memories of this trip for a lifetime. Catching fish, frogs, lizards and oh the rattle snake we almost stepped on. Next time we will let it go. It got skinned and will be incorporated into a few custom Fly Fishing rods Greg will make under the brand Manresa Rods.
