Oldest competitive skateboarder (female) Guinness World Record holder Judi Oyama

Super stoked to get the notice that my Guinness World Record was accepted. I wanted to try and see if I could get something in the books for racing at 64 years old. My second international race in my 50 year career of skateboarding. It's truly an honor. I appreciate all my friends that filled out paper work and filmed the race in Italy.
Thank you Collin, Jani, Michal, Lou and anyone that helped. The documentation is a process. I'm working on video and the next steps for posting with them. Hoping to get ISSA - International Slalom Skateboarding Association into more mainstream eyes.
Gathering assets for them. I just got the original video from Lou Nakasako who's working on the documentary project, that has never been posted directly from the camera. I have posted a video of the camera back playing it. Working on getting the real footage and information to GWR. Stay tuned!

Slalom Skateboard Rankings for 2024 posted

Men's Overall Rankings
Women's Overall Rankings
Women's USA Only Rankings
Only a matter of time before I am off the top rankings which is a good thing for the sport of slalom skateboard ranking. The younger skaters are coming up the ranks and will dominate and crush it. It's been a fun ride and I have no regrets. I am glad I kept racing thanks to friends, family and sponsors that have supported my long career.

World Skate Games 2024 Italy quick update new results

Leiola and I at our Hotel in Italy.

Slalom magazine designed by Jani Soderhall and put together for the race.
The racing was amazing. I have been meaning to post about Worlds. So many amazing things have been happening. The film crew Lou and Brea followed Leiola Kahuku and I to Italy with Leiola's family. Her parents and two Uncles.

Practice day photo on the Hybrid by Max Eaton. Leiola and family went up on Tuesday to check out the race locations. It was extra effort and 120.00 round trip to go the 20 minutes by van to the hill. I wanted to see the hill and the foot braking. The GS was the first race which had a gnarly left turn with grates and manhole covers to look out for.

Leiola did amazing at her second slalom competition. This is the Giant Slalom photo by Max Eaton. This was a fast hill.

I posted a few videos of the runs on my YouTube Channel.

Collin follow on the World Skate Games slalom skateboard
Hybrid with Sasuka from Japan 19 vs 64!

I didn't know until this morning that I was 13th overall. All the information I had leaving Italy I was 14th. Super cool to move up one.

Wow CBS Morning Show story aired never too old!

Just when I think my 15 minutes of fame is over I keep getting emails, texts and calls to do a story. I got an email yesterday morning but was at CrossFit working out at 6:00 am. When I finished class I was looking at my phone of course and had friends texting me saying they watched the CBS Morning Show

Vince my old tent mate from doing the Aids Ride 5 back in the 90's was the first to DM me. We have stayed friends ever since and had some of the most belly laughs when we were getting up the morning after 100 day rides riding from SF to LA.

It's Judi not Jody for the record. Either way I am stoked.

Thank you to the NHS crew and Rich Novak for letting us film in the NHS Museum.
Thank you Jamie Yuccas CBS News!

Texas Sizzler Slalom Skateboard Overall Results 2024

Texas Sizzler Overall Results 2024

Fun racing over the past weekend. Here are jpgs from the final PDF's. I always like to review my times and think about things I could of done to improve my racing. My arm swing, truck adjustments, wheel durometer, and anything else like not enough sleep that affected the outcome.

I placed 2nd overall for the weekend.
I was happy to place 3rd in the Giant Slalom.
2nd in the tight and 3rd in the Hybrid but I think I could have qualified higher if I had a cleaner run on the second run. I was getting cones sprayed into my lane all the way down. They counted I hit 11 but Leiola's mom had a video and so I was able to contest it and it went to under the DQ total of 9.
I counted 6 cones total.

Thanks Jonathan Harms for the YouTube footage.

The BAR 2.0 was tall and scary. Yes, I crashed on my ass on the first drop but was able to change my torn shorts and try again. I made the drop but didn't make the course. My foot shifted and I almost crashed a third of the way down the hill but corrected. I ended up racing off the smaller ramp.

Slalom Cyber Skateboarding World Records for 25, 50 and 100 cone Records

Came across these documents while looking for something else about Cyber Slalom. In 2008 I set up a Cyber Weekend in Santa Cruz for the 25-50 International 25, 50, 100 cone race. We set a course on the levee in Santa Cruz near Josephine Street. Jonny Miller was kind enough to bring a start ramp and we set it up on the levee.

We had a good size crew of all ages. Jamie Hart came down from Sacramento, John Ravitch, Gary Holl, Jonny Miller from Los Osos and many others a few we have lost like NorSki and Wally Sueyoshi RIP. We did get one complaint and the police showed up. I told them we would be done soon and a few hours later they came back and we wrapped it up. It took a bit longer than I thought but it was done and we had times. I just ran the Cyber a October 7th and my time was slower by .4 seconds.

25 Cones 6 feet apart, 3 pushes from a start box. You have to go both directions and average the two fastest times.

50 Cones 6 feet apart, 3 foot start ramp. One direction timed run fastest of 3 headwind and slight uphill.

100 Cones 6 feet apart, no ramp push start. I direction timed run fastest of 3 we set up this course on a hill in San Jose. I remember we had head winds and it was super super hot 95 degrees. Heat effects your wheels and the wind slows you down.

Santa Cruz woman, 64, to head to Rome for World Skate Games

Made the news last night on KNTV Bay Area NBC channel with Marianne Favro and her camera guy Jim who's from Santa Cruz. I am honored to get media attention this past year after not getting much my whole career.
We were going to skate and if they had a some breaking news story to go to we knew they might not make it.

We set up 50 cones 6 feet apart on a spot that is pretty flat and easy to get too. Thank you to walkers, joggers and bike riders for letting us use part of a lane. I usually drive to San Jose on Saturday mornings and meet up with a crew of skaters on a road that we've ridden on for over 17 years. We've seen some really crazy driving and 90 plus miles on a little remote road.

Last weekend we set up cones in this exact spot to run the Cyber Slalom 25 cones that was a world wide event. 21 spots around the world and we were one in Santa Cruz. We ran 4 runs both directions and posted a combined time. I was third overall in the women's division.

Thank you Josh Harvey and John Nakama for coming over and helping me set up and mark 25 more cones so now we have a 50 cone training spot.

I am currently ranked second in the women's world slalom skateboarding 2023 season. ISSA International Slalom Skateboarding Association. I'm third overall 4 year overall Women's Ranking and second in the Women's Masters. It's a points system. It doesn't mean I'm the second or third fastest in the world but according to the averages of my racing and points. At the USA slalom races and from the World Skate Games I am the second fastest woman in the USA consistently getting second or third to Lynn Kramer the 17x World Champion. I'm happy with that just stoked to be racing and having fun.

21 spots around the world and we were one in Santa Cruz.

Judi Oyama GS Slalom Run Texas Sizzler 2023

Squirrel ran across the bottom.

I don't always race the Giant Slalom but I have been at 63 years old who wants to go as fast as they possibly can? I guess I do for a bit longer. I placed 2nd in the Women's and 15th overall against all the men and women all ages. We each had 3 runs. I rode my Sk8kings Axe the first two runs I had 75mm the last run I put 2 bigger wheels on but my fastest race was my second run that Jonathan Harms captured here with the insta360 camera. It was our first and only run with it. I don't like to ask racers who are competing to video unless they offer. (I let this run all the way to the bottom of the hill so you can see the runoff. At night you get big bugs on the ground and I had one hit my chest at speed. With a tailwind you have to speed off into the parking lot area.) Epic place to race if you ever get a chance. This was the Texas Outlaws 18th year running the race.

Giant Slalom combined best of two runs overall results.
I placed 15th mid pack 31 races all ages

A few more images from the World Skate Games Straight Parallel Slalom in Argentina 2022

This is Saturday's 68 cone Straight Parallel Slalom at the World Skate Games 2022 in Argentina on the San Juan Villicum Race Track in Argentina.
Collin Kruse is doing a iPhone follow below is the video he took. He's really good at it and a great all around skateboarder. These photos are by Monique Soderhall, Jani's wife who was kind enough to shoot in the heat. This was the most organized race I have ever been too. They had cold water and drinks at the top and the bottom of the hill. They provided snacks and lunch. We had full live coverage and on site camera crew at both the race track and the giant slalom hill.

If you go I recommend buying the package hotel deal with Worlds. We had 3 great assistants at the Don Thomas Hotel. Had breakfast home baked pastries, fresh fruit and made us scrambled eggs, we got a boxed lunch to take to the race and an amazing dinner each day. This came with transport to the races and back and to and from the airport. It was easier than renting a car and trying to figure out monies and places to go.

After two runs I was beat by 0.211 seconds.
I lost focus on the bottom of one of the runs and almost DQ'd.
I hit 5 cones but got back on course. I was running clean most of my other races. The second run was close but since I hit cones so I didn't move forward and Suzuka did. It's cool to see the next generation of slalom racers coming into the fold.

I was stoked to meet and race 17 year old ripper Japanese Skateboarder Suzuka Nakanishi.

Here is a new Youtube link to the finish on our tight race.
She got me on the line and my first run I hit cones because I lost my focus.
Suzuka advanced to the round of 4. I did beat her on the other three races. Shit happens. She's the future of slalom.

Fundraising for the World Skate Games in Argentina!

More than halfway there in funds.
Big thank you to my BFF Cindy Whitehead for posting the "Support Judi Oyama in Going to Worlds for Slalom Racing!" article to help my fundraising efforts. I hate asking for help and so this has been a great vehicle to let people know I need help with expenses so I can skateboard internationally. Cindy is a Sportstylist® OG vert skateboarder and best friend since the 70's.
Cindy has a female empowerment movement & brand, “Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word” that gives back to girls in skateboarding via 501c3’s and micro-grants. GN4LW also creates opportunities and gives visibility to females in a male-dominated sport. Her mission has been profiled in espnW, Forbes, Teen Vogue and more.
